It is our earnest desire to cascade and share the best practices of our journey with the CHED IDIG Grant. My Background: My professional work experience before coming to the USA was into project management. My first job was as the Project Manager for the Luntiang Lumad Project (LLP) under the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist of Sarangani Province in December 2000 - December 20003. Inspired by the LLP set up, I along with Mr. George Young (Adviser to the Governor) and Romy Martin (Blaan leader and professional) were tasked to conceptualize the Indigenous Peoples Development Program (IPDP) by virtue of an Executive Order by the newly installed Governor Miguel Rene Alcantara Dominguez. I served as Program Manager for IPDP with a very lean team that implemented trailblazing projects geared towards cultural heritage and preservation, cultural research, Indigenous Peoples empowerment and capability building, linkages to international and local partners for our core projects. As an immigrant in the USA, I did not stop engaging back home and providing expert judgment/subject matter expertise, mentoring online some friends who are into various initiatives. I became a Board Member of the Galing Foundation, Inc. (GFI) in 2007 and still serving as Secretary as well as GFI Mindanao Outreach Director for our Library and Development Resource Assistance Program helping schools and communities build libraries and in which we collect and ship educational resources here in Atlanta. Being actively engaged non-profit organizations gave me an opportunity to give back and share my knowledge and skills in project management. |
